Warrior Spotlight – Dennis Johnson

1. When did you start Max Life and what was your main reason for starting?

I joined Max Life last September.  I used to work out a lot but hadn’t for more than 20 years and missed doing it.  I have always believed exercise is good for you, but excuses are easy to come up with.  Being 62, I was concerned that I would even be able to do it anymore.  My youngest daughter found a special you were running and I couldn’t pass it up.  I had to see if I would still be able do any exercising and if it would help me.

2. What goals have you accomplished at Max Life and what has been your story going through the program?

Luckily I started with no goals other than to try to go every day and enjoy doing the exercises the best I can.  While my nutrition has not been terrible over the years, I am now trying to do better and follow Max Life’s dietary suggestions.
After my first couple months I had an achilles tendon injury and had surgery to repair it.  And of course my blood pressure had to be checked.  The doctor said that it was on the low side.  He asked why I was on the meds.  I had been taking blood pressure and cholesterol meds for years, but hadn’t been exercising.  The doctor said after the injury had healed he would recheck.  And a couple months ago he took me off all the meds completely.  He said would be watching it, but if I kept the exercise up and continued eating better, he believes I am done with meds.  While I didn’t seem to have any side effects, I am glad to be off them!
Also, when I started I weighed 170 pounds and had almost 24% body fat.  Now I weigh 160 pounds and am just above 17%.  A very nice benefit from just doing some fun exercises!  I wasn’t even trying to loose any weight, but loosing body fat, that’s real good!

3. What is your favorite thing about Max Life?

My favorite thing about Max Life is the motivation that all the instructors give you.  They all make it easy to come in and get through the workout, no matter how sore and stiff I might be.  And I really enjoy all the varied exercises.  Having only lifted weights in the past I am always amazed by the noticeable progress and body changes that these exercise give!

4. What is the next goal you hope to accomplish?

My main goal now is to NOT find any of those excuses, that are easily there, that would allow me to stop coming to Max Life!

5. What is your favorite “power” word?

Probably aren’t power words, but fun and motivated are the two that come to mind.  It is fun to come to class every morning, to go through all the exercises and to feel so good about doing it!  And, again, thanks to the attitudes and the help of all the instructors it is to stay motivated and show up!
